Installing Domino 8x on windows server 2003 x64 and the invisible set-up wizard!

I had to install Domino on Winders server 2003 64 bit edition last week. Now first off I tried installing the 32 bit edition of Domino 8.0 because I had that to hand.
The install ran fine but on trying to start the server for the first time, expecting to get the set-up wizard, I got nothing. A quick look at processes confirmed that serversetup.exe was running but just not visible. This has apparently blighted other people with one work around being to run nserver -silent and use the Administration client remote install tool.
After a bit of messing around and one server re-image later ( for other reasons aside from the install) I ended up installing Domino 8.0.1 - but same problem!
I'm not sure why but, trying 'nserver -playback' from the command line seemed like a punt even if logic suggested that this shouldn't work [ I thought playback was intended for running previously saved server set-up profiles - which it is].
Usefully though the nserver -playback option gives you an option to run a 'new' profile - which neatly pops you into the normal set-up wizard and away you go. I'm not sure if that is the intended functionality ... but it worked.
Now I've no idea if this is confined to x64 windows, I'm just glad the work around wasn't too timing consuming.

I was going through the same process, same frustrations, then I went to look and found the nserver -silent which I didn't like, and then I found your solution which is way better.
So nserver -playback is the way to go!
