The latest release of the Teamstudio tools is out this week and this seems like a release with some really good features..

The few bits from the release notes that perked my interest were:
  • Analyzer - you can configure it to analyze and even better audit design elements as they are saved.  This might not sound like much - but I would think that rather than running an audit on a whole database I could now "audit as I go" - and maybe setup an agent to notify me of audit failures.  So I only audit my changes and will know sooner that I have an audit failure - sounds good.  I'll slight reserve judgement until I see how fast it performs.
  • CIAO - store as zip is a default for making versions; it uses the db path rather than DBID to track the database - that'll save some hassle;
  • CIAO - it now does branching and based on the conversations I've had it sounds as easy as 'create branch' then 'merge'  when you want to.  You'll have some manual work when merging but I haven't seen a version control system with a merge function that doesn't require manual effort.
  • CIAO - you can integrate it with a issue tracking system.  Unclear what this means right now but it sounds like the changes would be tied to an 'issue log' and check-in comments could be feed back to the issues log and issues updated effectively direct from the version control operations!
  • Delta - most notably, it can now compare LotusScript at the function level.  I think it is this sort of functionality that makes the merge functionality in CIAO practical.

There have as usual been loads of bug fixes.

The bit missing from the release notes, as I was hastily told by Teamstudio, was that Ed 24 won't work with Build Manager version 3.  The better news on the back of this is that a new Build Manager version will be out shortly - and it sounds like there will some interesting features there as well.  Looking forward to that...
